ABOUT
Hi, I’m FUNMI.
I believe Pilates is a way of moving that everyone can benefit from.
It teaches you to connect mind and body, build strength from your centre and develop the awareness, control and alignment to move well.
Because how we move matters — not only in the studio, but in everything we do.
My role is to teach you how to move with strength, awareness and confidence.HOW PILATES FOUND ME.
My journey with Pilates began after a back injury left me facing the possibility of surgery.
I discovered Pilates while looking for an alternative and it changed the way I understood movement and what my body was capable of.
I ultimately avoided surgery, but what stayed with me was a much deeper appreciation for movement, strength and the mind-body connection.
Years later, that experience led me to teaching and continues to shape the way I teach today.
My Approach
CALM. ATTENTIVE.
SUPPORTIVE. DETAIL-FOCUSED.
I’m a Level 3 qualified Pilates teacher, comprehensively trained in the Classical Pilates method and full apparatus. I’m committed to teaching the method with integrity, while continuing to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the Classical system.
I teach the person in front of me.
That means observing closely, listening, adapting where needed and knowing when to support you and when to challenge you.
I want you to leave the studio not only having moved your body, but understanding it a little better.
Because the goal isn’t simply to become better at Pilates.
It’s to become stronger, more capable and more confident in the way you move.
WHY CLASSICAL PILATES?
I was drawn to Classical Pilates because it is so much more than a series of exercises.
It is an intelligent, interconnected system with enormous depth.
There is always somewhere to go: something to refine, something to strengthen, another connection to discover.
And because the system gives so many ways to approach movement, it can meet someone where they are while continuing to move them forward. THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
FUNLAYO
FUNLAYO comes from my Yoruba name, Funmilayo. Its meaning — “give me joy” — captures something I wanted this studio to hold from the beginning. The joy of movement. The satisfaction of becoming stronger. The moment something that once felt impossible becomes possible. And the simple pleasure of spending time doing something good for yourself.FUNLAYO is a space to move, learn, be challenged and discover what your body is capable of.THE STUDIO
